Turkish Cymbals: The Turkish Cymbal Story began with master cymbal maker Mehmet Tamdeğer, and his refinement of the centuries-old smithing process. Learned in 1950 under the apprenticeship of Mikael Zilçan (regarded by many as The Father of Modern Cymbal Making.) Mehmet’s passionate dedication to the art and perfection of the craft led to the founding of the Istanbul Cymbal brand in 1981 (later becoming Istanbul Mehmet following a partnership dispute.) The Turkish Cymbal brand was established by Mehmet in 1996 as a “Sister Brand” to reflect his history, with a contemporary vision for new cymbal creations.
